General
This is the privacy and data protection policy for WorkSkills.Life (“WSL”, “we”, or “us”). It sets out how we collect, use, store and protect any information that you give us, in compliance with the requirements of applicable Data Protection Laws which are the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018, as well as information about how you can exercise your data protection rights.
Should we ask you to provide certain information by which you can be identified when using our website, it will only be used in accordance with this policy.
This policy (together with our Website Terms of Use policy), sets out the basis on which any personal information we collect from you, or that you provide to us, will be processed by us.
About us
WorkSkills.Life is a one stop shop for practical, career ready learning. We provide a range of vocational courses delivered online for professionals wanting to start a new career or strengthen workforce skills they already have. We bring together professional short courses, flexible learning pathways, and real-world skills that open doors to new opportunities.

We may occasionally update this policy, for example to take into account changes at WorkSills.Life or to reflect changes in regulation or legislation. What personal information do we collect, how and why?
Personal information is any information that relates to an individual. It does not include information where the identity of the individual has been fully and effectively removed (anonymous data).
The personal information we collect comes from a variety of sources:
- information you give us;
- information we collect about you
Information you give us
You may give us information about you by filling in our online forms registering or using services on our websites or by corresponding with us by email or otherwise.
We currently collect and store the following information about individuals who are undertaking course(s) with us:
- full name;
- contact information including email and postal address and telephone numbers;
- demographic information such as nationality, gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, date of birth, job title and role
You may only pass us another individual’s personal information if you have that person’s consent to do so on the understanding that their personal information will be processed as described in this policy.
We may collect, store and use personal information you provide to us when you:
- order from us;
- request information from us;
- use our services (including services on our websites)
- subscribe to our e-newsletter;
- provide a business card for the explicit purpose of correspondence and contact.
The data you provide to us may include:
- name, address, postcode, country, email address, telephone number;
- how you heard about us;
- information relating to purchases you have made, including payment details;
- information relating to customer surveys or offers;
- (for trade customers), company name, trading address, registration number, website, VAT number, number of employees, trade reference;
- any other personal information, that you choose to send us, including when you use our services.
Please let us know by email if the personal information we hold about you needs to be corrected or updated.
Information we collect about you
In each of your visits to our website we may automatically collect the following information:
- technical information, including the Internet protocol (IP) address used to connect your computer to the internet, your login information, browser type and version, time zone setting, browser plug-in types and versions, operating system and platform;
- information about your visit, including the full Uniform Resource Locators (URL) clickstream to, through and from our website (including date and time), and;
- products you viewed or searched for; page response times, download errors, length of visits to certain pages, page interaction information (such as scrolling, clicks, and mouse- overs), and methods used to browse away from the page.
Sensitive personal information
Under data protection legislation, certain personal information is considered more ‘sensitive’ (e.g., information relating to race, religion, political affiliation and health). This is also known as ‘special category data’. We do not typically collect special category data, but may do so if you choose to provide it to us.
How do we use your information
All personal information that we obtain about you will be recorded, used, and protected by us in accordance with current Data Protection Laws and this policy. The information that you choose to share will help us to continually develop and improve the availability of our products and services across the website.
Legal basis for processing the data
We will only use personal information where the law allows us to (i.e. where we have a ‘lawful basis’).
One of the lawful bases for processing data under the UK GDPR is 'Legitimate Interest'. This means that we can process your personal information if we have a genuine and legitimate reason and we are not harming any of your rights and interests.
When you provide your personal details to us, we will use your information for our legitimate business interests to carry out our work as an educational organisation. Before doing this, we will carefully consider and balance any potential impact on you and your rights.
We will primarily use your personal information in this context to provide our services to you and, for example:
- to administer and process your profile and product purchases;
- to answer questions that you have;
- to provide you with our products, services and benefits;
- for record keeping purposes;
- for statistical and demographic research;
- to carry out market research so that we can improve the services we offer;
- to track activity on our website and via our e-communications for their improvement;
- to provide you with details about the development of our services, including information about us;
- to send you email bulletins, where these have been requested, which we believe might be of interest to you. If at any time you would like to unsubscribe from receiving emails, we include unsubscribe options at the bottom of each email we send you. We may contact you with marketing by telephone or post unless you indicate otherwise when you supply your data to us. We will only send you electronic marketing messages (which would include marketing via email, text message or social media direct message) where you have consented to receive such messages.
The other lawful bases that we rely on to process personal information include where:
- the processing is necessary to meet contractual obligations into which you have entered as a customer or supplier (including where we need your personal information to provide you with a specific service that you have requested or signed up for);
- when you give us consent to process your personal information (for example when you opt-in to receive electronic marketing from us, or otherwise provide any sensitive personal information to us);
- when it is our legal duty, for example if we need to make a report to HMRC, or the police.
How long we keep your personal information
We only keep your personal information for as long as we need to, so that we can use it for the reasons described above. Where your information is no longer required, or is no longer relevant, we will ensure it is disposed of securely. The criteria we use to determine the retention period of personal information are: (i) the respective statutory retention period; (ii) our contractual and/or business relationships with you; (iii) (potential) disputes; and (iv) any guidelines issued by relevant regulators.
Your rights and control over your personal information
Under the UK GDPR, you have the right to:
- request access to the personal information we hold about you. In order to do this, please make a Subject Access Request using our online form.
- request that we rectify or erase your personal information. In order to do this, you can use the Subject Access Request online form, or you can log in and update your personal information online, including your address and contact details, at any time.
- request that we restrict the processing of your personal information;
- object to your processing of your personal information in certain circumstances (including by changing your preferences by logging in online);
- under certain circumstances, ask us to port personal information about you that you have provided to us to you or to a third party; and
- where we have previously obtained your consent to process your personal information, withdraw that consent.

Please be aware that we may need to verify your identity before complying with your request, and in some circumstances we may be unable to provide these rights to you, for example if we are legally prevented from doing so or can rely on exemptions.
You also have the right to lodge a complaint against us, which you can do by contacting the Information Commissioner’s Office at www.ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint.
International Data transfers
Your personal information may be stored, processed, and/or transferred outside the UK so that we can use your personal information as described in this policy. UK data protection laws include specific rules on transferring personal information outside the UK.
When transferring personal information outside the UK, we will:
- include standard data protection clauses approved by the European Commission and/or UK Secretary of State for transferring personal information outside the UK into our contracts with relevant third parties; or
- ensure that the country in which your personal information will be handled has been deemed "adequate" by the UK Government under Article 45 of the UK GDPR.
Do you disclose my personal information?
We do not sell or trade your personal information to third parties.
To deliver our services to you, we may need to disclose some of the personal information we process about you with staff, trusted suppliers and partners under our control.
By way of example, we may disclose personal information:
- to individuals regarding their own profile and product purchases (i.e. in response to a Subject Access Request_ - you have the right to make a Subject Access Request to find out what personal information we hold about you;
- to current employees of WorkSkills.Life - we require requests to be made in writing so that we can assess the nature of the enquiry. In compliance with the Data Protection Act and UK GDPR, we will not disclose personally identifiable information in these circumstances, but we do reserve the right to confirm / deny whether your profile data is up to date;
- to financial organisations - we share your financial data to process payments for products and services offered;
- to trusted third parties who assist us in operating our website, conducting our business, or servicing you, provided that those parties agree to keep this information confidential;
- as part of a sale, merger or acquisition, or other transfer of all or part of our assets including as part of a bankruptcy proceeding;
- pursuant to a subpoena, court order, or other legal process or as otherwise required or requested by law, regulation, or government authority programs, or to protect our rights or the rights or safety of third parties;
- to our professional advisors, lawyers, accountants and auditors; or
- with your consent or as otherwise disclosed at the time of data collection or sharing.
How do we contact our customers?
We currently communicate with our customers via post, email and telephone.
As part of our commitment to reducing administration costs and streamlining services, we will send all communications by email.
It is your responsibility to ensure that your contact details are up to date, so that we can continue to send you communications. Update your details online by logging in to your account on our website.
Is my information secure?
We are committed to ensuring that your information is safe. Your information will be held in a secure environment, and access to it will be restricted according to the “need to know” principle. To prevent unauthorized access or disclosure we have put in place suitable physical, electronic and managerial procedures to safeguard and protect the information we collect online. While we seek to use appropriate organisational, technical and administrative measures to protect personal information within our organisation, unfortunately no data transmission or storage system can be guaranteed to be 100% secure. If you have reason to believe that your interaction with us is no longer secure, please immediately notify us by emailing learn@workskills.life.
